One of the best things about having the girls live here is that I get to sew for them. Today's project was a very simple one, based on the Blythe Basic Skirt with Pocket. I did leave the pocket off the skirt this time, however.
Most of the patterns in that collection come without instructions, so I thought I would make some up. ^_^
The first thing to do is to download the pattern and print it out. None of those particular patterns have seam allowances, so I always print them out at 125%. This automatically adds in the seam allowances, and makes them fit very well on Pullips.
For this skirt, I am only using two parts, the front, and the part of the back that has the extra section on the side:
When I cut them out, I centered the flower on the front piece, and then the two sides I cut out right on the selvage of the fabric. I did this so that it won't unravel. One of the selvages on my particular fabric is not printed, so what I did was I lined up the beginning of the printing with that line on the fabric. It makes that edge of the fabric a little wider, but it won't matter in the long run. ^_^
Sew up the side seams using a 1/4" seam allowance. If you would like, you can also zigzag right along the edge so that it won't unravel later on.Turn down the top 1/4" and sew; then do the same for the bottom hem. Press it all down flat, and you'll have something that looks like this:
Now, fold the skirt in half and line up the two side seams. Check to make sure that your top and bottom hems line up on the back of the skirt. If they don't, you'll have to fix them so that they do.
Now, sew along the line where the printing starts on the fabric, or, if your fabric doesn't have that white selvage, sew where the line was on the pattern piece.
Sew the back seam about 1/2 way up the back of the skirt. I usually backstitch the bottom hem and where I stop sewing - those are weak points where the stitching can come undone.
Once you do that, look at the top of the skirt. You need to form the placket of the back of the skirt by folding it like this:

Then, sew on your snaps:
And you're done!
